Printing, Scanning & Photocopying


SCANNING

KIC self-serve scanners provide a free, easy way to scan high-res images of books, documents, photos, and more.

The library has three KIC scanners:

  • On the first floor to the right of the Library and Research Help Desk as you enter the Library, at the end of the cluster of quick look-up PCs.
  • On the first floor west, in the Library Learning Commons Lab near the LCLC lab.
  • On the third floor, just outside the Digital Design Studio

Scanner features:

  • Scan materials directly to an email address, USB drive, or Google Drive account, bypassing the need to use a conventional flatbed scanner or carry around paper copies.
  • Scan content face-up. No need to struggle with copying books and other materials face-down, which can be cumbersome and can also cause damage to the book spine.
  • The KIC is free to use! Print your scanned content from any networked campus computer using your PaperCut print balance.

PHOTOCOPYING

The library has three photocopy machines:

  • On the first floor, to the right of the Library and Research Help Desk as you enter the Library, at the end of the cluster of quick look-up PCs.
  • On the third floor outside of Archives
  • On the fourth floor east end, near the outdoor atrium.

Use of the photocopiers requires a CSU ID number and password to log in. The current cost for photocopying is 5¢ per copy, charged to the user's Papercut print balance.

Ask for assistance at the 1st floor Tech Help Desk in the Learning Commons Lab if you need help with the copiers or are a non-CSU visitor.


PRINTING

Print jobs sent from the 1st floor Library computers and the 2nd floor look-up terminals are directed to the print station in the Library Learning Commons Lab on the west end of the 1st floor. (The 2nd floor Math Emporium has a separate networked printer.)

Printing for CSU students is available at no charge from all library computer stations. At the start of every semester, CSU allocates $80 of free printing to each student’s account. When a page is printed, 4 cents is automatically deducted from that account. For color printing, 50 cents is subtracted. If the entire allocation is used up before the semester ends – unlikely, but it could happen – more pages can be purchased.

Printing Instructions for CSU Students, Faculty & Staff

  1. If you are a current CSU student, faculty, or staff member, you will be automatically connected to the University's Papercut printing system when you log in to any of the Library's non-Community Borrower computers. A window will open showing the remaining balance of your print allocation for the current semester.
  2. Before you print a document, use the program's "Print Preview" function to confirm how many pages you will be printing and to see how the printed pages will look (web pages frequently do not print the way they are displayed on the screen). If you are satisfied with the print preview, select "Print". If you do not see the Print Preview option or the preview does not look like what you see on the screen, please ask for assistance at the nearest service point.
  3. In the Print dialog box that appears, select the printer you want to print to. The default printer is usually the nearest one. To specify black and white or color, click the printer's "Preferences" button ("Printer Properties" in Microsoft Office, or Ctrl-Shift-P -> "Preferences" in Chrome). The "Xerox Black and White" setting should be set to "On" by default (your prepaid printing account will be charged $.04 per page). For color printouts, change the "Xerox Black and White" setting to "Off (Use Document Color)" (your prepaid printing account will be charged $.50 per page). Click "OK" when you are done.
  4. Note that most of the University’s public printers now print two-sided (duplexed) by default.  To change this setting, click the "Properties" button next to the printer name.  On the "Paper/Output" tab, under "2-Sided Printing" options, select "1-Sided Printing" to print single-sided pages only, and then click "OK" to close the Properties window.
  5. Click the "OK" button in the main Print dialog box when you are ready to print your document to the printer you selected.  For assistance finding a printer, ask at the nearest service point.

Used Up Your Printing Allocation for the Semester?

Students can purchase additional non-refundable printing in increments of $4.00 online at SHOPNET by selecting “general purpose lab printing.” Take the receipt to the Mobile Campus Laptop Loan counter in room 128A of the Student Center to have your print purchase added to your balance.
